We had a wonderful afternoon spent with Aisha Alhadad, the owner of natural skincare Whifflove. During the short session with her, we were enlightened with tons of information about natural beauty products. Here's a short overview.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Aisha. I am a mum and an entrepreneur. My business focuses on natural aromatic skincare that uses natural and organic ingredients. The products were crafted by hand at home and customers may purchase the items through the online platform.
How did Whifflove come about?
I’ve been using DIY products on my own skin and scalp way before I started Whifflove. I was a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit but I left my job and became a stay home mum after I had my first child. During that period, I was into natural skincare and DIY treatments that were customisable to your skin because the past products I’ve used–even those from expensive skincare brands–did not work for my sensitive skin or improve my scalp condition. Leaving my previous job gave me the opportunity and time to learn more about aromatherapy. When I started my own skincare, my skin and hormonal acne improved tremendously and I’m thankful for that.
I didn’t have the intention to start a business but seeing the amazing results, I want to share my secrets with other women who have experience of dealing with skin issues or hair loss. I want to let them know that there’s a solution out there and it’s all natural.
What is your favourite Whifflove products?
Definitely, the main ingredient. The 100% therapeutic grade rose essential oil is the most expensive essential oil on the market. Five millilitres of it cost approximately S$300! Rose, as we all know, is a time-tested ingredient that has shown amazing benefit for our skin and it goes all the way back to Cleopatra era. If you were to try Whifflove’s rose skincare range, you will notice that your skin became brighter and the pores became tighter, making your skin supple and smoother.
Rose has hydrating and healing factors and it’s good for any skin types. Therefore, I created a whole range of affordable skincare for people to benefit from the aromatic experience.
How did you juggle being a mum and a businesswoman?
Honestly, it’s very challenging. A business requires efforts from all channels, including marketing, communications and packaging. As I make the products from scratch, it’s even more time-consuming. One thing I figured that makes sense is to focus on being a mum when I’m with my kids and only get work done when they are asleep. I literally don’t have much rest in-between. Thankfully, I have the support of my family whereby my husband and our family will help to look after the kids.
Who inspires you?
I believe there are a lot of inspiring people out there. To me, my mum is my inspiration. She’s full of sincerity and love. She leaves behind a positive impact and trail that affect people in a good manner. Even though she’s no longer around, people who have interacted with her were also inspired by her. My mum inspired me to develop a good relationship with people because it's important to surround yourself with good vibes.
Are there values or quotes you stick by during challenging times?
Yes, it’s a quote from the Quran, “With every difficulty comes ease.” Whenever I’m in a difficult situation, I tell myself it’s temporary and hopefully, ease will come after going through it.
Do you have any advice for aspiring female entrepreneurs?
To any female who wishes to start a business, you have to believe in yourself and practice good time management. Learn how to piece your life together as you juggle being a mum, wife and businesswoman. With kids around, a woman should understand that things won’t always go the way as planned and schedule plans can go haywire. When it does, take it easy and try again during your free slot.
Can you describe yourself in three words?
Positive, colourful and shy.
